Thursday 21st September LUSCIOUS RICKYS MANTLEPIECE Sounds Of The Underground, Weekender’s live band showcase returns to Club Aura, Taunton on Thursday 21st September, and features two of the best young bands in Taunton. Joint headlining the night are talented quintet MANTLEPIECE. Featuring five gifted multi-instrumentalists whose core sound of guitars, drums, bass and vocals is given subtlety and texture through their use of cello, piano and both electronic and ethnic percussion, Mantelpiece are a rock band in only the broadest sense of the word. Their sound is filled with touches of folk, classical and world music, and in spirit they resemble a cool-jazz combo: individually gifted and with a deep musical rapport, their performances are full of improvisation, so that each live show becomes a unique experience. The second of the night’s joint headliners are the town’s favourite young band, the LUSCIOUS RICKYS. When this bold and brash four-piece first hit the scene in late 2005, they caused an instantaneous surge of excitement and anticipation in the hearts of indie music lovers all over Taunton. Inspired by an eclectic multiplicity of musical genres such as The Libertines, Radiohead, The Clash and even Abba, the Rickys have a whole arsenal of captivating songs with contagiously energetic vibes and undeniable lyrical flair. |
